Testimonial ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Hi my name is Paula,I have MS (multiple sclerosis ). I am limited to some activities, that I had in the past been very independent.
Just recently my grandmother took a turn for the worse (she was 92) . She lived
at the Cobden nursing home. My husband due to business obligations was unable to drive me . I could probably have driven myself , but fatigue being my #1 nemesis, I didn’t want to chance the drive home. A friend suggested to call Calabogie Home support. I didn’t think I would qualify for their help. But this service is not only for seniors but also for people with disabilities. I phoned and was set for the next Monday. I was picked up at my door . The very friendly gentleman helped me into his truck and stored my walker in the back.
I had a very warmfelt visit with granny, after a couple of hours it was time for me to go, after visiting with my uncle.
My drive was waiting patiently for me . And brought me home. The reason I am writing this message is ,2 days later granny pssed away ,and I was able to spend some private time with her,due to Calabogie Home support people . I won’t mention his (driver) or the nice lady who answers the phone and my many questions. But I will mention their kindness. Thank you both for giving me the opportunity to see my grandmother , her and I were able to have one last visit . Bless you both .

VOLUNTEERS
Volunteers are the backbone of Calabogie Home Support as they are involved in every aspect of the service. Volunteers help to provide the leadership, programs and funds that support services for seniors and adults with disabilities in our community.
Many of our volunteers feel they benefit from their experiences, as do the people they serve. Positions available are:
Board Of Directors
Board Members meet regularly (usually every month) to provide leadership and direction for our overall program and services.
Telephone Security Check
Call clients on a pre-arranged schedule to ensure their wellbeing and offer an opportunity to chat.
Office Volunteers
Assist staff with day-to-day office procedures and preparations for fundraising/special events, e.g., newsletter mailouts, tickets for a raffle, etc. Activity in this role is on an “as-needed” basis when workload extends beyond regular staffing resources.
Fundraising Committee
Fundraising Volunteers assist the fundraising committee in carrying out fundraising events, including selling raffle tickets, giving out information at display booths, selling admission tickets & greeting people as they arrive at special events, and helping with set-up and removal of event displays and materials. Volunteers assist on an “as-needed” basis.
Volunteer Drivers
Volunteers use their vehicles to provide transportation for clients to get to their medical appointments and for additional activities, e.g. shopping and banking, social/recreational and personal activities. Drivers also deliver frozen meals to those who cannot pick them up at the office. Some may be long-distance, e.g. Ottawa, Pembroke etc. or more local, e.g. within Calabogie or to Renfrew or Arnprior. In addition, our drivers help support Carefor’s “Going Home” program for seniors aged 65 and older discharged from a hospital.
Our volunteer drivers receive mileage compensation.
